Within 30 days of your first day at work, you will need to select your benefits and make some decisions about your retirement and savings. Don’t worry. It’s not difficult. You can get the information you need right here.

Ready to enroll?  Go to HPE Benefits Connect, and select HPE Benefits Enrollment Tool.

Before you enroll, make sure you:

  • Know how the Flexible Benefits Plan and the HPE Group RRSP work
  • Have decided the right benefit options for you and your

    eligible dependents

  • Have decided on your beneficiary(ies) for your employee life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance
  • Know how you would like to allocate any extra flex dollars you may have
  • Have decided how much you want to save per pay for retirement
  • Have your RRSP limit from your CRA Notice of Assessment or last tax return
  • Set up your retirement accounts with Sun Life Financial; and
  • Have chosen the right investment options for your retirement savings strategy

We know things can change

That’s why you get the chance to adjust your coverage each year. And if you have a big change in your life – like marriage or the birth of a child – you can change your benefits right away. Learn more at Making Changes to Your Benefits.

If you don’t enroll

As a new hire, when you are first eligible to enroll, if you do not complete your online enrollment by the deadline, you will receive the default coverage for benefits and retirement, which might not match your needs.  The default coverage would apply until the next annual enrollment period.

Default Benefits:

  • Dental option 3 – employee only
  • Medical option 3 – employee only
  • Employee life insurance option 2 – 1 x annual pay for benefits and no spousal or children’s coverage
  • Employee AD&D insurance option 2 – 1 x annual pay for benefits and no spousal or children’s coverage
  • Long-term disability option 1 – you pay with after-tax payroll deductions
  • Unused flex dollars – Any remaining flex dollars are paid to you as taxable cash in equal installments throughout the year
  • Your life and AD&D beneficiary will be assigned to Estate

Default Retirement:

  • HPE’s 1% contributions will be directed to a non-registered account with Sun Life Financial in the BGI LifePath Index Segregated Fund, with the target date based on your age
  • You will need to complete an inter-fund transfer if you wish to move these funds to your investment options at a later date
  • Your beneficiary will be assigned to Estate as legislated by the provincial pension benefits acts
